I believe nonprofits are the heartbeat of the community they serve and my entire legal career has been focused on serving the legal needs of nonprofits as they grow to meet the needs around them. I understand that organizational leaders often need responsive and proactive legal counsel, and that is precisely what our team strives to deliver.
I began my career out of law school working for a large nonprofit health system in the North Texas area. Soon after, I joined a firm focused almost exclusively on nonprofits in which I focused on nonprofit governance, employment, and compliance with the then new Affordable Care Act. I have continued serving nonprofits and healthcare organizations around the United States and have spoken at various national conferences on the issues of Executive Compensation, Nonprofit Governance, Healthcare Law, International Expansion and Employment Law. In 2019 I formed The Anthony Law Firm, PLLC and after 3 successful years, joined with my colleague Michele Sparkman to form Anthony & Sparkman, PLLC.
I currently live in the DFW area of Texas with my wife and three children. I serve as an elder at my local church and enjoy volunteering with SOS International.
I am passionate about serving nonprofit organizations as they promote good within their communities and I seek to provide practical and efficient legal solutions to strengthen organizations to fulfill their missional goals. It has been my privilege to serve nonprofit organizations for over sixteen years on a wide array of issues such as entity formation, corporate governance, employment law, third-party investigations, child abuse prevention, strategic planning, restructuring, mergers, dissolutions, and more.
I graduated from Texas A&M University and earned my Juris Doctor from Texas Wesleyan School of Law (now Texas A&M School of Law.) Upon graduating, I served as a law clerk for the Honorable Bob McCoy of the Second District Court of Appeals, Fort Worth, an experience that was incredibly formative in shaping my legal practice. I have been providing legal counsel to nonprofit organizations and faith-based organizations ever since.
In addition to providing legal services, I serve alongside my husband, Curt, in his vocational ministry as a pastor. Because of this, I lend my clients a unique perspective in pairing the best legal practices for the operation of a faith-based organization while also understanding the practical issues that arise as you serve your community. Most recently, our family of six relocated from the great state of Texas to Northwest Montana where we are planting a new church in the beautiful mountain town of Whitefish. In my spare time, I love to trail run and hike tall mountains, read, cheer my kids on as they try new things, and serve our community through Goodwater Ministries.
I am licensed to practice law in both Texas and Montana.
After graduating from Baylor Law School in 2019, I worked for a large nonprofit organization serving in Employee Relations. There I was responsible for the employee handbook, performance improvement processes, and assisting with employee training. In 2021, I joined Anthony & Sparkman as an associate attorney. I am passionate about providing sound legal counsel to churches, nonprofits, and individuals.
I am passionate about the local church and oversee a softball small group league, hosting around 16 teams every spring and fall. I come from a rich legacy of ministry, growing up inside the local church, and I have seen the pros and cons of the realities of doing ministry. I desire to help equip churches and nonprofits to navigate legal issues and further their mission.
I currently live in the DFW area of Texas with my wife and daughter.
As a litigator, my expertise comes in seeing the legal risks that nonprofit organizations face and developing a strategy to reduce or eliminate the potential for a lawsuit. I have worked extensively conducting internal investigations for major corporations and nonprofits; protecting the interests of the organizations while making sure bad actors are appropriately disciplined. For clients facing legal action, I am adept at preparing witnesses to testify, crafting a defense strategy, managing discovery, and negotiating settlements in favor of my clients. I am excited to provide my skillset to the area of nonprofit
Though a Texas native, I have developed my legal skills in the jurisdictions of New York and California, first at litigation powerhouse Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, and more recently at the trial firm Hueston Hennigan LLP. I am a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, where I served as an editor for the Virginia Law Review, and attended Ouachita Baptist University for undergrad.
